The Causes of Aging Skin - Lifestyle
- Aug 27, 2018 -

Such factors like eating habits, how much sleep you get, the degree of stress to which you are exposed, amount and type of exercise you engage also affect your skin. Healthy habits slow progression of aging of your whole body as well as your skin. Introducing simple changes in your daily routine has a great potential for improving the condition of your skin.

Facial Expressions: Repetitive facial movements actually lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Lines around your eyes and mouth, called laugh lines, develop after years of laughing and smiling. Creases in your forehead develop after years of squinting or furrowing your brow in worry. Some people call these facial lines “character lines,” others just call them plain old “wrinkles.”

Sleeping Positions: Sleeping with your face in the same position on the pillow every night can lead to wrinkles or sleep lines as they are commonly named. Sleeping with the side of your face resting on the pillow results in chin and cheek wrinkles. Sleeping face down means the forehead gets affected. People who sleep on their backs do not develop these wrinkles since their skin does not lie crumpled against the pillow.

Smoking: Smoking causes biochemical changes in the body that make skin age quicker than it should. Research shows that a person who smokes 10 or more cigarettes a day for a minimum of 10 years is statistically more likely to develop deeply wrinkled and leathery skin. Yellowy skin on the overall body is another side effect of long-term smoking. The repetitive action of holding a cigarette between the lips leads to significant wrinkles around the lip and chin areas. If a smoker quits, some of these signs may be reduced or even vanish. Quitting smoking is the single best anti aging skin care technique anyone can do.
